FRINGE LOTTERY!  [UPDATED]
Unless you’re an absolute Fringe twat, you are no doubt aware of the fact that tonight is the fabulous Minnesota Fringe Festival Lottery!  And unless you’re an absolute Fringe twat, you know that it’s never too early to get some Fringe buzz going (both good and bad).  Just a quick perusal of the official Fringe applicant key tells me that there is a lot to get excited about…and a lot that’s going to suuuuuuuuuuuck.  Here are highlights from both categories:
—————
— BESTIES —
5.) Two Gentlemen of Lebowski (Theatre Arlo) — Adam Bertocci’s adaptation of “The Big Lebowski” into William Shakespearean goodness.
Is the world sick of Shakespeare mash-ups?  If not, I hope it’s getting close.  But Theatre Arlo is fun and I love “The Big Lebowski” like it’s something I wrote myself.
4.)  Pawlenty and Molnau: A Love Story (Robert Baril) — A satiric look at Minnesota’s Governor and Lt Governor one night during Pawlenty’s 2012 campaign for the President of the United States.  Michelle Bachmann makes an appearance.
If Crazypants Bachmann does actually make an appearance in this show, it instantly skyrockets up to #1 on my list…of all time.
3.)  ROBO-homa! (Rewired Theatre Company) — A territory tale with a technological twist.
I’ve always said that the only way to make Oklahoma! better was to add robots.
2.)  Boba Fett: Road Rules Death Race (Urban Gorilla Productions) — Find out what happens when six hip, plucky 20-somethings team up with rebel alliance and imperial forces in a cross-country Winnebago race.
Yes, thank you.  I believe I will.
1.)  I F@#ked Bjork: The Matthew Foster Story (Ferrari McSpeedy Theatrical Production) — Some sort of short comedic play with either two people or more than two people.
I’m going to pray a little pray that this title doesn’t change (it will).  That being said, this description will end up being funnier than 38% of the comedies in this year’s festival.  Mark my words.
— WORSTIES —
5.)  Batmama (Creatures of Fancy) — Batmama and her musical couterpart, Jimmy, perform songs and exchange banter as Batmama tries to convince the audience she is really a bat, a star, and a mother.
Sounds bat-shit crazy.
4.)  Ayn Rand Speaks (Joan Calof) — Improvisational interview with me as Ayn Rand and interviewer.  After the interview, questions and comments from the audience.
SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
3.)  Bedroom Eyes (Junkyard Theater) — Mistress Ginger sings the songs that got your grandmother into bed…Mistress Ginger = Justin Leaf with pink hair and 6-inch heels.
Another description for this show might be: “Justin Leaf scares the living shit out of his friends and family for 45 minutes”.
2.)  Pageant Girls (Damaged Goods) — It’s a beauty pageant.  It’s funny and tragic.
I have a feeling it’s definitely going to be one of those things.
1.)  Missing: the fantastical and true story of my father’s disappearance and what I found when I looked for him (Jessica Ferris) — A show about how I found out my father was an alias-having, ponzi scheme-running, snake oil-selling con man.
I’ll take two!
