AUNTIE DORRIS’ YOU MAY NOT WANNA KNOW BUT I’M GONNA TELL YOU ANYWAY A-THON
![]()
Directed by Dav Yendler and starring Alan Metoskie as “Frankie” and Zoe Schwartz herself as the inimitable “Dorris”, this quirky solo piece is, in spite of its relative incoherence, also just fun to watch. Metoskie is a riot as Dorris’ Russian accompanist, and Schwartz attacks “Dorris” with such reckless abandon that I was willing to go with it for an hour.
Lowlights: I could have done without the Oprah imitation (it’s a bit creepy), the show ended on a strangely low Sunset Boulevard-esque note, and there’s an exchange between a plastic horse and and a bedraggled doll that lasts for what seems like a traditional work week.
Highlights: There’s an exchange between a plastic horse and a bedraggled doll, Alan Metoskie contributes hilarious and understated commentary to the action, and Schwartz is so convinced of her sex appeal and moxie that I was touched by both the artist and the goofy character.
This piece needs some real work, but that’s the spirit of the Fringe — I say keep developing this story, Ms. Schwartz, and bring it back next year.
