TWO SHORT OPERAS: MR. BERMAN’S BATH-SIZE BAR AND THERE’S A MASTODON IN MY BACKYARD
![]()
I have to tell you that I am not by any means an Opera Person. I used to go to the Met once in a while when I had friends in New York, and my mother likes some loud Puccini when she cooks, but this show ended up on my schedule mostly because it was between two other shows I wanted to see in the same venue.
Thank goodness!
I had my pants charmed off of me by the tale of a bath-sized bar of Dial soap, and learned about mastodons in 5-part harmony. The Playwrights’ Center started to feel a little too small for opera once these guys got going, but that made it even more awesome.
Two stars for two clever and musically interesting operas, plus two more stars for the polished and impressive performances.
