THE TENTH MUSE

This is one of those shows that I aimlessly wandered into, because there was nothing else on my gay-genda. I hadn’t heard anything about this show until I got the program in my hand and read the title of what I was about to see. This show could have been really good. Maybe even one of those hidden gems that gains momentum.  Unfortunately, it probably won’t. It’s about a woman, (Elisa Korenne) who, with the help of a muse, writes and performs eight songs, inspired by actual people in history. If the story had stuck with that premise, it may have succeeded. But Korenne also weaved in stories from her own life and her journey to be a musician. The two story lines, mixed with the brief stories behind each song made my head explode. WWAAYY too much unnecessary dialog. That being said, the songs were really good. Korenne’s voice is buttery, and smokey at the same time.  I almost think this show should have just been a 45 minute acoustic concert.
I give this show half a leg in the air, and three Gaye Golden Stars.
