SOMETHING WITCHY

I saw Something Witchy at the Rarig Center Thrust this afternoon, and I admit I was intrigued by the premise. A self-professed work of fiction based loosely on the events surrounding Charles Manson and the Family’s vicious and bloody acts in 1969 Los Angeles, the piece was a look at one of “Charlie’s Girls” — the one who escaped. We find her with a family and a nice home in the suburban Midwest on a morning in 1986, when a stranger enters her home and demands some answers for what happened 17 years earlier. The small cast consists of Lindsey Alexandra Hartley, perfectly assigned to the rebellious teenage daughter; Chris Carlson as the unwelcome and persistent stranger; and Catherine Johnson Justice as the forgotten Charlie’s Girl.
The script has some holes, and ties together a little too conveniently at the end, but overall it’s an interesting idea. If you still get chills listening to the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter”, check it out.
